Quick Answer: Which Weapon Wins?
On raw damage-per-second the Iron Sword wins every standing fight. On safety and interruption the Hunter Bow wins everything else. Apolypter is built around swapping per encounter rather than maining one weapon — the bestiary table on the monsters page tells you which to lead with for every monster.
| Criterion | Iron Sword | Hunter Bow |
|---|---|---|
| Raw DPS (uncoated) | Higher | Lower |
| Charged-shot interrupt | No | Yes |
| Effective vs hovering/flying | Poor | Excellent |
| Ammo/coating cost | None | Frost Vials (10g each) |
| Skill floor | Sidestep timing | Lead your shots |
A common trap: maining the bow because it is safer, then meeting the Cinder Toad — it heals on contact damage, so arrows tickle it while it walks at you. Sword that one.
The Verdict by Fight
- Ember Bat swarm: bow, coated. Hovering targets, interrupt-heavy.
- Ash Wolf packs: sword, coated. They sidestep arrows while closing.
- Cinder Toad: sword, on cooled rock only. Contact healing punishes ranged chip damage.
- Ashen Warden: both — sword for the boss, bow for the phantom adds.
- Magma Tyrant: bow, for the slam-wave phases where you fight from platforms.
